The Neill-Cochran House (lithograph) #322/1000, Boutwell, George
1 The Neill-Cochran House (lithograph) #322/1000
Boutwell, George
Austin, TX Whitley Company 1977 Limited Edition Artwork As New
Series of lithographs by Austin, Texas artist George Boutwell depicting some of the treasures of our heritage--landmarks on the Central Texas Scene. This lithograph of the Neill-Cochran House at 2310 San Gabriel is one of the finest of the Greek Revival mansions built by master builder Abner Cook. Built in 1853 as a plantation house the structure has had an interesting history having served briefly as Texas' first "Asylum for the Blind" and also as a hospital for wounded Union soldiers captured during the Civil War. In the 1870s it again became a residence and, through the years, was the home of a series of important Texans on both the political and social scenes. Acquired in 1958 by the National Society of Colonial Dames, the property is operated as a museum. (National Register Property) . This information is on the tissue covering the lithograph, enclosed in a brown sleeve marked "Landmark 10". #322 of 1000, signed by Boutwell. ; Small 4to 9" - 11" tall; 1 pages; 21827; Signed by Artist
