"The Cow Killers" With the Aftosa Commission in Mexico, Gipson, Fred
3 "The Cow Killers" With the Aftosa Commission in Mexico
Gipson, Fred
1985 5th Edition Near Fine in Very Good+ dust jacket Illustrated by Bill Leftwich Signed by Illustrator
Signed inscription with a drawing of a Mexican man in a Sombrero above the title on half-title page. Foreword: in March of 1949, young Bill Leftwich of Crystal City, Texas--former student at Texas A & M college, soldier of World War II--went into Mexico to serve as a livestock inspector for the Aftosa Commission in its fight against the foot-and-mouth disease. He spent some three years rounding up and corralling cattle, chasing pigs, roping and tying down wild mountain steers, inspecting every clove-footed animal for symptoms of the virus. With a keen sense for the dramatic, an eye for detail, he set out to record the day's adventures in line and wash. Some of those adventures were sad, some comic, some rowdy, and some tragically bitter. With an uninhibited flare, Leftwich recorded them all. Fred Gipson (Texas Hill Country author of "old Yeller" and others) converted the stories into the series of vignettes that accompany Leftwich's work in this book. 2 or 3 small closed tears on DJ. ; Small 4to 9" - 11" tall; 130 pages; 31220; Signed by Illustrator
