Prentice Hall 1964 1st Edition Hardcover Near Fine in Very Good dust jacket
Covers the King Size volcano eruption in 1883--considered the most dangerous volcano on the face of the earth. The energy released is estimated to have been one million times greater than an H-Bomb. It was one of the deadliest and most destructive volcanic events in recorded history, with at least 36,000 deaths being attributed to the eruption itself and the tsunamis it created. Monnon, Mary Ann
Hantsport, Nova Scotia Lancelot Press 1989 0889990719 / 9780889990715 8th Printing Softcover Near Fine
23 pictures. The Halifax Explosion occurred on Thursday, December 6, 1917, when the city of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, was devastated by the detonation of the SS Mont-Blanc, a French cargo ship that was fully loaded with wartime explosives. The Mont-Blanc detonated after colliding with the Norwegian SS Imo in a part of Halifax Harbour called "The Narrows". About 2,000 people were killed by debris, fires, and collapsed buildings, and it is estimated that over 9,000 were injured. Until the Trinity test explosions of atomic bombs, it was the largest man-made explosion in recorded history. The explosion caused a tsunami in the harbour and a pressure wave of air that snapped trees, bent iron rails, demolished buildings, grounded vessels, and carried fragments of the Mont-Blanc for kilometres. Very minor edgewear, no creases or writing. ; Small 8vo 7" - 8" tall; 144 pages; 23908
